We are raffling a Hobie Mirage Kayak to raise money to bring our wounded military and vets to Captiva in October.
We hope you enjoy your new Hobie Mirage Kayak! And we would like to thank the Ketelsen's and everyone who showed their support for our cause and our vets by purchasing raffle tickets and giving some very generous donations! Nothing would be possible without our supporters.
Fish With a Hero was founded by Larry Kendzior, Bill Coyne and Tommy Hogan in 2013. Larry Kendzior is a business consultant and former Army Captain. Bill and Tommy are veterans who helped start Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing in the Middle Tennessee region. In its first year, $3,500 was raised to provide a two day trip for 30 wounded vets. In 2014 and 2015, we raised approximately $25,000 each year to bring 40 wounded vets to the Florida Keys for two days of fishing provided by local guides and charter captains.
In 2016 we raised $20,000 to bring 16 vets from the PHWFF national program for two days of guided fishing out of WorldWide Sportsman in Islamorada in the Florida Keys.
Last year, over 3,500 Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) volunteers helped over 7,400 disabled veterans and military personnel. Founded in 2005, PHWFF is a unique, community-based, nonprofit 501(C)(3) volunteer organization dedicated to the physical and psychological rehabilitation of injured active-duty military personnel and veterans with disabilities. This is accomplished through the therapeutic and rehabilitative benefits of fly fishing, patience and relationship-building. Participants include: active duty military, disabled veterans, Guard, and Reserve personnel with VA disability ratings. Whether wounded in combat, injured in vehicle or training accidents, or suffering debilitating illness, PHWFF serves all disabled veterans. Because of this, PHWFF is in a position to lead the way in helping today’s young disabled veterans throughout their lifetime.
We are bringing wounded and disabled military veterans and volunteers to Captiva. The 50 paricipants include 15 women and are members of Project Healing Waters, a national 501(c)(3) organization. We will be fishing out of the luxurious South Seas Island Resort, whose generosity is also providing meals and accommodations.
This event runs October 24th-27th.
